TECHNICALBulletin No.: 09-08-64-036
Date: December 02, 2009
Subject: Intermittent Front Door Lock Operation During Freezing Temperatures (Install Revised Door Lock)
Models:
2008 Cadillac CTS
2009 Cadillac CTS (with RPO UHA or UHF), CTS-V
Condition
Some customers may comment on any of the following conditions:
- One or both front doors may not open using the outside door handle in sub-freezing conditions (the door can still be opened using the inside release handle).
- One or both front door may open, but then not close and re-latch in sub-freezing conditions (the DIC will indicate that the door is ajar or open).
- The door lock is frozen.
In all cases, normal function resumes when the vehicle warms up. These conditions may exhibit themselves after a car wash and/or driving on wet roads, and subsequently being exposed to sub-freezing temperatures.
Cause
This condition may be caused by water penetrating the electrical actuator of the latch, allowing it to freeze and stop functioning.
Correction (CTS)
Confirm that the condition is not caused by an inoperative outside handle switch or a doc-n-loc electrical connector (refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 08-08-64-008B. If neither of the above conditions is present, replace the door lock assembly with the revised lock assembly. Refer to Front Side Door Latch Replacement in SI.
