Condition

Some customers may comment on an intermittent hard to shift/hard to get into gear. Usually the condition occurs primarily in 1st and/or 3rd gear(s).

Cause





The cause of this condition may be due to the shifter cover/bolts (1) coming loose and/or missing.

Correction





Raise the vehicle and inspect for loose bolts from under the vehicle as shown above. No disassembly is necessary for inspection.

To correct this condition, replace the shifter assembly, GM P/N 20802168. Refer to Shift Control Assembly Replacement in SI.
