This bulletin is being revised to add the 2010 model year and associated repair information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 09-08-44-006C (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).
Condition
Some customers may comment that the navigation information display squeaks or makes noise when it is raised or lowered.
Cause
2008-2009 Cadillac CTS, CTS-V
This condition may be caused by the gears and guides on the navigation display mechanism.
2010 Cadillac CTS, CTS-V, CTS Sport Wagon
This condition may be caused by excess instrument panel material rubbing on the navigation information display housing in the upper right corner.
Correction
2008-2009 Cadillac CTS, CTS-V
Important
DO NOT replace the navigation information display for this concern. Perform the following repair before diagnosing and replacing the navigation information display.
1. Remove the navigation information display opening cover. Refer to Navigation Information Display Opening Cover Replacement in SI.
2. Remove the navigation information display. Refer to Radio, Video, Audio Disc Player, and Navigation Information Display Replacement in SI.
Caution
DO NOT drag the display on the work table. Dragging the display on the work table may cause the rubber pad (1) to come off.
3. Move the display to a suitable work table.
4. Using care, manually move the display from the lower position (1) to the upper most position (2).
5. Use the recommended brush shown above to apply lubricant in the following step. For best application of the lubricant, use a brush that has bristles 3-5 mm (0.125-0.2 in) wide and 10 mm (0.394 in) long.
6. Using the brush shown in the previous step, apply lubricant to the right side path of the bush guide from bottom to top. The lubricant should be applied in two applications as shown.
7. Use the guide shown for the minimum (1), standard (2) and maximum (3) amount of lubricant to use. Repeat Steps 6 and 7 on the left side bush guide.
8. After you have applied the lubricant with the display in the upper most position (2), carefully move the display manually down (1), then up (2), and finally down again (1).
9. Install the display back into the vehicle. Refer to Radio, Video, Audio Disc Player, and Navigation Information Display Replacement in SI.
10. Install the display opening cover. Refer to Navigation Information Display Opening Cover Replacement in SI.
2010 Cadillac CTS, CTS-V, CTS Sport Wagon
Important
DO NOT replace the navigation information display for this concern. Perform the following repair before diagnosing and replacing the navigation information display.
1. Remove the front floor console applique. Refer to Front Floor Console Applique Replacement in SI.
2. Remove the front floor console transmission shift opening trim plate. Refer to Front Floor Console Transmission Shift Opening Trim Plate Replacement in SI.
3. Remove the center instrument panel trim plate applique. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Plate Applique Replacement - Center in SI.
4. Remove the right side instrument panel trim plate applique. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Plate Applique Replacement - Right Side in SI.
5. Remove the radio control assembly. Refer to Radio Control Assembly Replacement (with Navigation Display) in SI. Do not disconnect any connectors.
6. Raise the navigation information display by pressing the NAV button on the radio control.
7. Using a sharp X-Acto(R) knife or utility knife, trim the excess instrument panel material on the right side of the navigation display in the area shown (1). Only trim off the excess flap or bulged material.
Important
Avoid nicking or scratching the navigation display when trimming the excess material from the instrument panel.
8. When correctly trimmed, the instrument panel will appear as shown above (1). The resulting trimmed area should only extend about halfway up the small section of the instrument panel as shown between the two arrows in the picture above.
9. Install the radio control assembly. Refer to Radio Control Assembly Replacement (with Navigation Display) in SI. Do not disconnect any connectors.
10. Install the right side instrument panel trim plate applique. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Plate Applique Replacement - Right Side in SI.
11. Install the center instrument panel trim plate applique. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Plate Applique Replacement - Center in SI.
12. Install the front floor console transmission shift opening trim plate. Refer to Front Floor Console Transmission Shift Opening Trim Plate Replacement in SI.
13. Install the front floor console applique. Refer to Front Floor Console Applique Replacement in SI.
