DTC Descriptors
DTC P0658
- Solenoid High Control Circuit Group 1 Low Voltage
DTC P0659
- Solenoid High Control Circuit Group 1 High Voltage
Circuit/System Description
The transmission control module (TCM) high side driver 1 is located inside of the control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly and has no serviceable parts. The high side driver 1 provides the voltage for the following TCM pressure control solenoids and shift solenoids:
* Line Pressure Control Solenoid 1 (PCS1)
* Pressure Control Solenoid 2 (PCS2)
* Pressure Control Solenoid 3 (PCS3)
* Pressure Control Solenoid 4 (PCS4)
* Pressure Control Solenoid 5 (PCS5)
* Shift Solenoid 1 (SS1)
* Shift Solenoid 2 (SS2)
* Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid
This fault is handled inside the TCM and no external circuits are involved.
Conditions for Running the DTC
P0658
* The engine speed is greater than 500 RPM.
* Ignition voltage is between 8-18 volts.
* High side driver 1 is enabled.
* DTC P0658 has not failed this ignition.
P0659
* DTC P0659 has not failed this ignition.
* Ignition voltage is between 9-18 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
P0658
The TCM detects an internal open or short to ground in high side driver 1 for 3 or more times out of 5 test samples.
P0659
The TCM detects an internal short to voltage on high side driver 1 circuit for 3 or more times out of 5 test samples.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
P0658
* DTC P0658 is a Type A DTC.
* The TCM turns OFF high side driver.
* The TCM turns OFF all solenoids.
* The TCM commands maximum line pressure.
* The TCM freezes transmission adaptive functions.
* The TCM commands the TCC OFF.
* The TCM allows the vehicle to operate in transmission protection mode.
P0659
DTC P0659 is a Type C DTC.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* DTC P0658 is a Type A DTC.
* DTC P0659 is a Type C DTC.

Circuit/System Testing
1. Clear the DTC and operate the vehicle under the conditions for running and setting the DTC.
2. Observe the High Side Driver CKT Status parameter. The parameter should display OK.
• If the parameter displays Open, Short to Ground, Short to Voltage, or the DTC resets, replace the control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly. Refer to Control Module References (Programming and Relearning) for replacement, setup, and programming.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
* Control Module References (Programming and Relearning) for control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly replacement, setup, and programming.
* Perform the Service Fast Learn Adapts (Programming and Relearning) if internal transmission repairs are performed.
