Keyless Entry - Erratic Window Operation

INFORMATION

Bulletin No.: 10-08-52-005

Date: October 13, 2010

Subject: One or More Windows May Roll Down When Using Secure Car Feature

Models:
2006-2011 Cadillac STS

The Cadillac STS has a feature referred to in the owners manual as "Secure Car." If the engine is off, the windows may be closed from outside the vehicle using the lock button on the remote keyless transmitter. PRESS and HOLD the lock button on the transmitter for more than two seconds to close any open window(s) on the vehicle.

Condition #1

Customers who press the door lock button twice to achieve a doors locked horn chirp confirmation (if enabled) may inadvertently activate this feature if they continue to hold the LOCK button for more than 2 seconds.

Condition #2

Customers may comment that one or more of the windows goes down half-way instead of up when using this feature. This may happen specifically when any window is open at least 25 mm (1 in) but not more than 50 mm (2 in). When activating this feature, if any window is unable to close completely, it will reverse and lower half-way accompanied by a horn chirp. This condition may be aggravated by ice/snow, debris, excessive soap residue on weatherstrips, heavy tree sap on the window or any condition causing additional drag on the glass.

Note
If any window reverses and rolls down half-way, PRESSING and HOLDING the LOCK button on the remote keyless transmitter for 2 seconds, a second time, will close the windows.

Important
DO NOT replace any parts to correct this condition. Replacing components will not change this condition.

2006-2009 Models

To eliminate the possibility of inadvertent activation of this feature, or if one or more of the windows has reversed and lowered, you may permanently disable this feature if the customer wishes. Any of the above factors listed under Condition #2 above may create this situation and parts replacements will not remedy the possibility of a window reversing. A command to turn off the "Secure Car" feature has been added to the Diagnostic Scan Tool menu to disable the feature.

2010-2011 Models

The text in the owners manual explaining the "Secure Car" feature was removed prior to printing, however the functionality for this feature is still present in the vehicle. To eliminate the possibility of inadvertent activation you may disable this feature if the customer wishes.
