Fuel Filter Replacement
Removal Procedure
Note:
* There is no service interval for fuel filter replacement. Only replace the fuel filter if the filter is restricted.
* If you find a restricted fuel filter, inspect and clean the inside of the fuel tank.
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief (With CH 48027) (Service and Repair)Fuel Pressure Relief (Without CH 48027) (Service and Repair).
2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
3. Place an approved container under the vehicle to catch the draining gasoline.
4. Disconnect the quick-connect fittings (4 and 5) at the fuel filter inlet. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service (Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service).
5. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting (1) at the fuel filter outlet.
6. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.
7. Remove the fuel filter (3) by sliding it out of the bracket (2).
8. Remove the bolt (9) and bracket (2) if necessary.
9. Discard the fuel filter into an approved container.
Installation Procedure
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
1. Install the bracket (2) and bolt (9) if previously removed. Tighten the fuel filter bracket mounting bolt to 9 Nm (80 lb in).
2. Remove the protective caps from the new fuel filter.
3. If originally equipped, install new plastic connector retainers on the fuel filter ports. Install the new retainers in the same position as on the old fuel filter.
4. Slide the fuel filter into place.
5. Connect the quick-connect fitting (1) to the outlet side of the filter.
6. Connect the quick-connect fittings (4 and 5) to the inlet side of the filter. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service (Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service).
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Ensure that the fuel tank filler cap is installed correctly.
9. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Side Post) (Service and Repair)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LHD With Top Post) (Service and Repair).
10. Perform the following procedure in order to inspect for leaks:
1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF for 2 seconds.
2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
11. Install the engine sight shield Refer to Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement (Service and Repair).
