Condition
Some customers may comment that the Head Up Display (HUD) navigation guidance does not appear or that when the preset (+/-) button is depressed, the radio audio does not work.
Cause
This condition may be caused by an internal software anomaly.
Correction
Important
DO NOT replace the navigation radio for this condition.
Revised software has been released to address this condition. Reprogram the radio using service update disc number 1 and service update disc number 2.
Important
Ensure that the power to the radio is not interrupted during the software reprogramming event.
1. Remove all CDs that may be loaded in the 6-disc changer.
2. Remove the map disc if it is loaded in the upper slot.
3. Insert service update disc number 1 into the upper slot of the radio.
4. A white screen will appear with a green loading bar. Observe and wait as the loading bar will move slowly and the s/w update will complete in approximately 3 to 4 minutes.
5. When the s/w loading of service update disc number 1 is complete, the radio will restart and return to the audio screen or the navigation screen. Once this occurs press the eject button to remove service update disc number 1.
6. Insert service update disc number 2 into the upper slot of the radio. A dark blue screen will appear with a light blue loading bar located in the lower left area of the screen.
7. Observe and wait as the loading bar will move slowly and the s/w update will complete in approximately 7 to 8 minutes.
8. When the s/w loading of service update disc number 2 is complete, the radio will restart and return to the audio screen or the navigation screen. Once this occurs press the eject button to remove service update disc number 2.
9. The software reprogramming event is now complete. Install any CDs that were previously loaded into the 6-disc changer.
10. Install the map disc, if it was previously loaded into the upper slot.
Important
^ Do not leave the software update disc in the radio after the update.
^ Do not give the software update disc to the customer.
^ The software update disc may be used to update more than one vehicle.
AVN Software Update Discs
Technical Service Bulletins are sometimes generated to address specific navigation radio operational or performance issues. When a navigation radio bulletin is issued, it may contain instructions to utilize an advanced vehicle navigation (AVN) software update with a specific part number. US or Canadian GM dealers must order advanced vehicle navigation (AVN) software update discs from the GM Navigation Disc Center. These discs will no longer be available from GMSPO.
AVN software update discs are for the dealer to update the navigation radio software only. They DO NOT update or replace the navigation map disc that is supplied with the vehicle. Please order these parts only as needed. There is a limited supply of these discs available. Do not order these discs for stock. AVN software update discs can be used to reprogram more than one vehicle. The first update disc for each P/N is free. Subsequent copies of the same P/N for the same dealer will cost $50 (USD).
To obtain an AVN software update disc, contact the GM Navigation Disc Center.
