Subject: Sun Visor/Sunshade Vanity Mirror Door Broken/Separated From Frame (Replace Vanity Mirror Door)

Models:
2008-2009 Cadillac STS

Condition

Some customers may comment that the sun visor/sunshade vanity mirror door is broken and separated from the mirror frame.

Cause

This condition may be caused by an area of porosity in the molded material of the vanity mirror door. This area may weaken over time, causing one of the side retaining pins to break off.

Correction

Replace the sun visor/sunshade vanity mirror door, following the steps below:

1. Use a trim stick, or equivalent tool, to release one of the two vanity door stop tabs (1). Wedge the stick near the stop tab and flex upward to spread the frame (2) away from the door.

2. Use the trim stick to release the second door stop tab (1) on the other side.

The two door stop tabs will now be sitting on the top side of the mirror frame, as shown above.

3. Flex the door from the center and near the end that you want to remove. This allows clearance for the side pin (1) to slide out from the frame.

4. Remove the door from the frame.

5. To install the new door, position one end of the side pin into the frame (1). The door should be near parallel with the visor blade, as shown above, and not simulating an open door.

6. Flex the door from the center and near the opposite end to install the other side pin into the frame (1). Note that the two door stop tabs (2) will now be sitting on top of the frame.

7. Insert the trim stick near the first door stop tab (1) and flex the frame (2) upward, away from the door, to create space for the tab to pop under the frame.

8. Insert the trim stick near the second door stop tab (1) and again flex the frame upward to allow the tab to pop under the frame.
9. Cycle the door open/closed several times to ensure proper function of the door and the mirror light.
