Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LH2) (4.6L)

Removal Procedure
1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging).
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement - Air Conditioning, Power Steering, and Water Pump (Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement - Air Conditioning, Power Steering, and Water Pump).
4. Reposition power steering reservoir aside. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (LY7) (Service and Repair)Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (LH2) (Service and Repair).
5. Remove the cooling fan assembly. Refer to Fan Replacement (LH2 With V92) (Service and Repair) or to Engine Coolant Fan Replacement (LH2 Heavy Duty Cooling) (Service and Repair)Engine Coolant Fan Replacement (LC3, LY7) (Service and Repair)Engine Coolant Fan Replacement (LH2 without V92, LLT) (Service and Repair).
6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
7. Remove the LH wheel and tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
8. Remove the engine splash shield. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. Remove the suction line bolt (1) from the compressor.
10. Remove the discharge line bolt (2) from the compressor.
11. Disconnect the suction and discharge line from the compressor.
12. Remove the engine oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (Service and Repair).
13. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor.
14. Remove the compressor mounting bolts.
15. Lower the vehicle.
16. Rotate the compressor and remove from the vehicle.
17. Replace the desiccant bag if the following conditions exist. Refer to Air Conditioning Refrigerant Desiccant Replacement (Service and Repair).
* Color of PAG oil is brown or black
* Presence of foreign substances
18. If you are replacing the compressor, balance the compressor oil. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Oil Balancing (Service and Repair).
19. Remove and discard the O-ring seals from the compressor suction and discharge lines. Refer to Air Conditioning O-Ring Seal Replacement (Service and Repair).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the compressor.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Install the compressor mounting bolts.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
4. Tighten the compressor mounting bolts and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
5. Connect the electrical connector.
6. Install the engine oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Install new O-ring seals to the line fittings. Refer to Air Conditioning O-Ring Seal Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Connect the suction line to the compressor.
9. Install the suction line bolt (1) and tighten to 9.8 Nm (87 lb in).
10. Connect the discharge line to the compressor.
11. Install the discharge line bolt (2) and tighten to 9.8 Nm (87 lb in).
12. Install the engine splash shield. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement (Service and Repair).
13. Install the LH wheel and tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
14. Lower the vehicle.
15. Install the cooling fan assembly. Refer to Fan Replacement (LH2 With V92) (Service and Repair) or to Engine Coolant Fan Replacement (LH2 Heavy Duty Cooling) (Service and Repair)Engine Coolant Fan Replacement (LC3, LY7) (Service and Repair)Engine Coolant Fan Replacement (LH2 without V92, LLT) (Service and Repair).
16. Reposition and install the power steering reservoir. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (LY7) (Service and Repair)Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement (LH2) (Service and Repair).
17. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement - Air Conditioning, Power Steering, and Water Pump (Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement - Air Conditioning, Power Steering, and Water Pump).
18. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair).
19. Evacuate and recharge the refrigerant system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging).
20. Using J 39400-A , leak test the fitting of the repaired or reinstalled component.
