Steering Wheel Replacement

* J 1859-A Steering Wheel Puller
* J 36541-A Steering Wheel Puller Legs
* J 42640 Steering Column Lock Pin

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the steering wheel inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the horn electrical connector.
3. Install J 42640 to the steering column.
4. Remove the steering wheel set nut.
5. Discard the steering wheel set nut.
6. Install J 36541-A and J 1859-A to the steering wheel.
7. Tighten the puller center screw against steering column shaft until the steering wheel slides off the steering column shaft.
8. Remove J 36541-A and J 1859-A from the steering wheel.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the steering wheel to the steering column, observing the alignment marks.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install a new steering wheel set nut and tighten to 41 Nm (30 lb ft).
3. Remove J 42640 from the steering column.
4. Connect the horn electrical connector.
5. Install the steering wheel inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
