This bulletin is being revised to add the 2010 model year. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 09-08-49-015 (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).
This bulletin is being issued to inform dealer personnel about concerns regarding the valet key feature not operating properly with the glove box lock. The wide tolerance range of the glove box latch and lock can allow the valet key to lock and unlock the glove box lock. This condition would defeat the intention of the valet feature.
If a customer reports this concern, and a valet key with P/N 20784578 requires replacement, it should be replaced with valet key P/N 15289762. At the same time the valet key is replaced, replace the ignition lock cylinder using P/N 19207991. Refer to Ignition Lock Replacement in SI.
Note
The profile of the new valet key has been changed so that it will not fit into the glove box lock. The picture below identifies the old valet key (right) with the narrow profile (1) and the new valet key (left) with the wider profile (2) which prevents the key from fitting into the glove box lock.
These changes will allow the valet key to operate the ignition lock and the door lock properly, but will not function in the glove box lock as intended.
