Front Suspension




Steering Knuckle Replacement (AWD)

Removal Procedure

Caution: The ball stud must not rotate during disassembly or reassembly. Hand tools must be used to keep the ball stud from rotating. If air tools are used and the stud is allowed to rotate, damage to the ball stud and/or stud mounting hole may occur.

Caution: Do not free the ball stud by using a pickle fork or a wedge-type tool. Damage to the seal or bushing may result.

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the wheel bearing/hub. Refer to Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement (AWD) (Front Suspension)Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement (RWD) (Front Suspension).




4. Remove the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement).




5. Remove the brake hose bracket to steering knuckle retaining bolts.




6. Remove the upper control arm ball stud from the steering knuckle retaining nut. Refer to Shock Absorber and Spring Assembly Replacement (Shock Absorber and Spring Assembly Replacement).




7. Remove the lower control arm ball stud from the steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement (AWD) (Front Suspension)Lower Control Arm Replacement (RWD) (Front Suspension).
8. Remove the steering knuckle.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the steering knuckle to the lower control arm ball stud.




2. Install a new lower control arm ball stud retaining nut. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement (AWD) (Front Suspension)Lower Control Arm Replacement (RWD) (Front Suspension).




3. Install the upper control arm ball stud to the steering knuckle.
4. Install a new upper control arm ball stud retaining nut. Refer to Shock Absorber and Spring Assembly Replacement (Shock Absorber and Spring Assembly Replacement).





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

5. Install the brake hose bracket to the steering knuckle retaining bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 14 Nm (10 lb ft).




6. Connect the outer tie rod to the steering knuckle. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement (Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement).
7. Install the wheel bearing/hub. Refer to Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement (AWD) (Front Suspension)Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement (RWD) (Front Suspension).
8. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
9. Lower the vehicle.
