SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE
When the Change Engine Oil Soon Message Displays
Change engine oil and filter. An Emission Control Service.
When the Change Engine Oil Soon message displays, service is required for the vehicle as soon as possible, within the next 1 000 km/600 miles. If driving under the best conditions, the engine oil life system might not indicate the need for vehicle service for more than a year. The engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and the oil life system must be reset. If the engine oil life system is reset accidentally, service the vehicle within 5 000 km/3,000 miles since the last service. Reset the oil life system whenever the oil is changed. Refer to Service Reminder Indicators.
When the Change Engine Oil Soon message displays, certain services, checks, and inspections are required.
Every Engine Oil Change
Change engine oil and filter. An Emission Control Service.
Engine coolant level check.
Windshield washer fluid level check.
Tire inflation check.
Tire wear inspection.
If tire rotation is recommended for the vehicle, rotate tires.
Fluids visual leak check (or every 12 months, whichever occurs first). A leak in any system must be repaired and the fluid level checked.
Engine air cleaner filter inspection.
Brake system inspection (or every 12 months, whichever occurs first).
Steering and suspension inspection. Visual inspection for damaged, loose, or missing parts or signs of wear.
Engine cooling system inspection. Visual inspection of hoses, pipes, fittings, and clamps and replacement, if needed.
Windshield wiper blade inspection for wear, cracking, or contamination and windshield and wiper blade cleaning, if contaminated.
Body hinges and latches, key lock cylinders, rear compartment hinges, console door hinges, and glove box door hinges lubrication. More frequent lubrication may be required when vehicle is exposed to a corrosive environment. Applying silicone grease on weatherstrips with a clean cloth makes them last longer, seal better, and not stick or squeak.
Restraint system component check. Check that the safety belt reminder light, safety belts, buckles, latch plates, retractors and anchorages are working properly. Look for any other loose or damaged safety belt system parts that might keep a safety belt system from doing its job. Torn or frayed safety belts may not protect you in a crash. They can rip apart under impact forces. If a belt is torn or frayed, get a new one right away. Make sure the safety belt reminder light is working. Keep safety belts clean and dry. The airbag system does not need regularly scheduled maintenance or replacement. Make sure the airbag readiness light is working.
Notice: If an airbag covering is damaged, opened, or broken, the airbag may not work properly. Do not open or break the airbag coverings. If there are any opened or broken airbag covers, have the airbag covering and/or airbag module replaced.
Automatic transmission fluid level check and adding fluid, if needed.
