DTC Descriptor
DTC B3849 00
- Exterior Door Handle Switch Circuit
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The exterior door handle switch signal circuit provides inputs to their respective door lock/window switch when the exterior door handle switch is activated. This input allows the door lock/window switch to detect a door open request. The door lock/window switch provides voltage to the exterior door handle switch via the front door handle switch signal circuit. When the front door handle is activated, the switch closes and the voltage signals from the door lock/window switch are pulled to ground.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Battery voltage is between 9-16 V.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The driver door lock/window switch detects the driver exterior door handle switch signal circuit is shorted to ground for greater than 180 seconds.
The passenger door lock/window switch detects the passenger exterior door handle switch signal circuit is shorted to ground for greater than 180 seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The exterior door handle switch signal ignores inputs from the exterior door handle switch.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
* When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.
* A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition OFF, with the doors unlocked, pull the exterior driver door handle. The driver door should unlatch allowing the driver door to be pulled open.
• If the driver door does not open, refer to Driver Door Handle Switch Malfunction
2. With the doors unlocked, pull the exterior passenger door handle. The passenger door should unlatch allowing the passenger door to be pulled open.
• If the passenger door does not open, refer to Passenger Door Handle Switch Malfunction
Circuit/System Testing
Driver Door Handle Switch Malfunction
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B27D door handle switch - driver exterior.
2. Test for less than 10ohm between the ground circuit terminal C and ground.
• If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
3. Ignition ON, test for greater than 9 V between the signal circuit terminal listed below and ground.
* Signal circuit terminal B-Sedan/Wagon
* Signal circuit terminal A-Coupe
• If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the S84D door lock/window switch-driver.
4. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the B27D door handle switch - driver exterior.
Passenger Door Handle Switch Malfunction
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B27P door handle switch - passenger.
2. Test for less than 10ohm between the ground circuit terminal C and ground.
• If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
3. Ignition ON, test for greater than 9 V between the signal circuit terminal listed below and ground.
* Signal circuit terminal B-Sedan/Wagon
* Signal circuit terminal A-Coupe
• If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the S84P door lock/window switch-passenger.
4. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the B27P door handle switch - passenger.
Component Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate exterior door handle switch.
2. With the switch in the open position, test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal and the ground terminal listed below:
* Signal terminal B and ground terminal C -Sedan/Wagon
* Signal terminal D and ground terminal C-Coupe
• If not the specified value, replace the exterior door handle switch.
3. With the switch in the closed position, test for less than 1 ohm between the signal terminal and the ground terminal listed below:
* Signal terminal B and ground terminal C -Sedan/Wagon
* Signal terminal D and ground terminal C-Coupe
• If greater than the specified range, replace the exterior door handle switch.
