Circuit/System Description
The passenger presence system (PPS) sensor continually monitors itself and uses the passenger presence module/passenger presence sensor in order to turn the passenger air bag indicator on/off in the radio/hvac control. When someone is sitting in the passenger seat the passenger presence module/passenger presence sensor communicates with the radio/hvac control to turn the passenger air bag indicator on. If no one is sitting in the passenger seat the radio/hvac control also receives a message to illuminate the passenger air bag off indicator.

Circuit/System Testing
1. With a scan tool, monitor the passenger classification in the PPS data list. With no one sitting in the passenger seat the scan tool should display Empty. While monitoring the passenger classification have someone sit in the passenger seat. The status should change indicate someone is sitting in the passenger seat.
• If the passenger classification does not change states, replace the passenger presence module.
2. If passenger clarification does change states, replace the radio/hvac control. Refer to Radio, Video, Audio Disc Player, and Navigation Information Display Replacement Radio, Video, Audio Disc Player, and Navigation Information Display Replacement.
