DTC Descriptor
DTC B1474 02
-
Exterior Passenger Door Handle Switch Circuit Short to Ground
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The exterior door handle switch signal circuit provides inputs to their respective door lock/window switch and to the remote control door lock receiver when the exterior door handle switch is activated. This input allows the door lock/window switch and the remote control door lock receiver to detect a door open request. The door lock/window switch and the remote control door lock receiver provides voltage to the exterior door handle switch via the front door handle switch signal circuit. When the front door handle is activated, the switch closes and the voltage signals from the door lock/window switch and the remote control door lock receiver are pulled to ground.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Battery voltage is between 9-16 V.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The remote control door lock receiver detects the right front exterior door handle switch signal circuit is shorted to ground or closed for greater than 180 seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The remote control door lock receiver ignores inputs from the passenger exterior door handle switch.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
* When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.
* A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Ext. Psgr. Door Handle Switch parameter while pulling and releasing the exterior passenger door handle switch. The value should change from Inactive to Active each time the handle is pulled and released.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, scan tool OFF, doors closed, disconnect the harness connector at the exterior passenger door handle switch.
2. After 10 minutes, test for less than 10 ohms between the ground circuit terminal C and ground.
• If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
3. Disconnect the X6 harness connector at the passenger door lock/window switch.
4. Ignition ON, verify that the scan tool Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Ext. Psgr. Door Handle Switch parameter is Inactive.
• If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the remote control door lock receiver.
* Terminal B-exterior passenger door handle switch Sedan/Wagon
* Terminal D-exterior passenger door handle switch Coupe
5. Ignition OFF, connect the X6 harness connector at the passenger door lock/window switch.
6. Ignition ON, verify that the scan tool Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Ext. Psgr. Door Handle Switch parameter is Inactive.
• If not the specified value, replace the passenger door lock/window switch.
7. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the exterior passenger door handle switch.
Component Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the exterior passenger door handle switch.
2. With the switch in the open position, test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal and the ground terminal listed below:
* Signal terminal B and ground terminal C -Sedan/Wagon
* Signal terminal D and ground terminal C-Coupe
• If not the specified value, replace the exterior passenger door handle switch.
3. With the switch in the closed position, test for less than 1 ohms between the signal terminal and the ground terminal listed below:
* Signal terminal B and ground terminal C -Sedan/Wagon
* Signal terminal D and ground terminal C-Coupe
• If greater than the specified range, replace the exterior passenger door handle switch.
