DTC Descriptor
DTC B2996 00
- Left Rear Door Ajar Circuit
DTC B3001 00
- Right Rear Door Ajar Circuit
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The body control module (BCM) provides a 12 V signal to each door ajar switch signal circuit. When a door is opened, the normally open ajar switch closes. With the ajar switch closed, ground is provided to the ajar switch signal circuit. The BCM interprets this and communicates via serial data with the instrument panel cluster to display the ajar icon.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The system voltage is 9-18 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
B2996 00
The BCM detects a short to ground in the left rear door ajar circuit for greater than 10 minutes.
B3001 00
The BCM detects a short to ground in the right rear door ajar circuit for greater than 10 minutes.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The door ajar indicator will be continuously illuminated.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
* When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.
* A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Right Rear Door Ajar Sw. and Left Rear Door Ajar Sw, parameters while opening and closing the left rear and right rear doors. The parameters for each door should change between Door Closed and Door Ajar.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate rear door latch.
2. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Rear Door Ajar Sw parameter is Door Closed.
• If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM
* Left rear door latch signal circuit terminal 4
* Right rear door latch signal circuit terminal 1
3. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the rear door latch.
Component Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate rear door latch.
2. Test for infinite resistance between the terminals listed below with the switch in the open position:
* Left rear door latch signal terminal 4 and ground terminal 6
* Right rear door latch signal terminal 1 and ground terminal 3
• If not the specified value, replace the door ajar switch.
3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the terminals listed below with the switch in the closed position:
* Left rear door latch signal terminal 4 and ground terminal 6
* Right rear door latch signal terminal 1 and ground terminal 3
• If greater than the specified range, replace the rear door latch.
