DTC Descriptor

DTC B3618 02

-
Exterior Trunk Release Switch Circuit Short to Ground

Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The exterior rear compartment lid release switch sends a signal from the remote control door lock receiver. When the exterior rear compartment lid release switch is activated, the signal circuit is pulled to ground. The remote control door lock receiver interprets this and sends a serial data message to the body control module (BCM) requesting the rear compartment lid be released.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Battery voltage is between 9-16 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The remote control door lock receiver detects a short to ground on the exterior trunk release switch signal circuit for greater than 30 seconds

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The trunk will not release from the exterior rear compartment lid release switch.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.

* A history DTC will clear once 40 consecutive malfunction free ignition cycles have occurred.

Diagnostic Aids

If the vehicle has a history of the trunk opening unexpectedly, inspect the point where the wires enter the exterior rear compartment lid unlatch switch for corrosion or evidence of water intrusion.

Circuit/System Verification

1. DTC B3618 should not be set as a history DTC.

If DTC B3618 is set only as history, replace the exterior rear compartment lid release switch.

2. Observe the scan tool Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Trunk Release Switch parameter while pressing the exterior rear compartment lid release switch. The value should change from Inactive to Active each time the switch is pressed.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X900 inline harness connector at the exterior rear compartment lid release switch.

2. Verify the scan tool Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Trunk Release Switch parameter is Inactive.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal C for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K77 remote control door lock receiver.

3. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal C and ground. Verify the scan tool Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Trunk Release Switch parameter is Active.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K77 remote control door lock receiver.

4. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the exterior rear compartment lid release switch.

Component Testing

Exterior Rear Compartment Lid Release Switch

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X900 inline harness connector at the exterior rear compartment lid release switch.

2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal C and the ground circuit terminal D with the switch in the open position.

If not the specified value, replace the exterior rear compartment lid release switch.

3. Test for less than 2 ohms between the signal circuit terminal C and the ground circuit terminal D with the switch in the closed position.

If greater than the specified range, replace the exterior rear compartment lid release switch.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification Verification Tests after completing the diagnostic procedure.
