Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The mirror select and fold/unfold switches are inputs to the mirror control module which communicates with the memory seat module through a serial data circuit. When the memory seat module receives a fold/unfold signal from the mirror control module, the memory seat control module will send a fold or unfold command back to the left mirror control module and passenger window switch. The mirror control module and passenger window switch control the fold/unfold motors through bi-directional control circuits.

Diagnostic Aids

Power folding mirrors can only operate when the mirror selector switch is in the middle position.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition ON.

2. Verify the scan tool Mirror Select Switch parameter changes between Left, Right, and None/Fold while operating the switch between Left, Right, and None/Fold positions.

If the parameter does not change
Refer to Circuit/System Testing - Mirror Switch Malfunction.

If the parameter changes

3. Verify the driver and passenger mirrors Fold and Unfold when commanding the mirrors to Fold and Unfold with a scan tool.

If the mirrors do not fold and unfold
Refer to Circuit/System Testing - Mirror or Command Malfunction.

If the mirrors fold and unfold

4. All OK.

Circuit/System Testing

Mirror Switch Malfunction

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S52 Outside Rearview Mirror Switch. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.

2. Test for less than 10 ohms between the low reference circuit terminal 11 and ground.

If 10 ohms or greater

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K96 Mirror Control Module.

2. Test for less than 2 ohms in the low reference circuit end to end.

If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

If less than 2 ohms, replace the K96 Mirror Control Module.

If less than 10 ohms

3. Ignition ON.

4. Test for 4.8-5.2 V between the signal circuit terminal 5 and ground.

If less than 4.8 V

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K96 Mirror Control Module.

2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit and ground.

If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.

If infinite resistance

3. Test for less than 2 ohms in the signal circuit end to end.

If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

If less than 2 ohms, replace the K96 Mirror Control Module.

If greater than 5.2 V

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K96 Mirror Control Module.

2. Test for less than 1 V between the signal circuit and ground.

If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.

If less than 1 V, replace the K96 Mirror Control Module.

If 4.8 - 5.2 V

5. Test for 4.8-5.2 V between the signal circuit terminal 12 and ground.

If between 4.8 - 5.2 V

6. Replace S52 Outside Rearview Mirror Switch.

Mirror or Command Malfunction

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the appropriate A9 outside rearview mirror.

2. Connect a test lamp between control circuit terminal 9 and control circuit terminal 10.

3. Verify the test lamp illuminates when commanding the driver and passenger mirrors to Fold and Unfold with a scan tool.

If the test lamp does not illuminate during either of the commands

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K96 Mirror Control Module or S79P Window Switch - Passenger.

2. Test for less than 1 V on each control circuit and ground.

If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.

If less than 1 V

3. Test for infinite resistance between each control circuit and ground.

If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.

If infinite resistance

4. Test for less than 2 ohms in each control circuit end to end.

If 2 ohms or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

If less than 2 ohms, replace at the K96 Mirror Control Module.

If the test lamp illuminates during each of the commands

4. Test or replace the A9 Outside Rearview Mirror.
