Sunroof Sunshade Assembly Replacement (P1LL)
Removal Procedure
1. Cycle the sunshade to the fully open position.
2. Remove the both front and rear sunroof window. Refer to Sunroof Window Replacement - Front Sunroof Window Replacement - Front and Sunroof Window Replacement - Rear Sunroof Window Replacement - Rear.
3. Lift upward on the cable guides tabs (1) located at each end of the extension bar (2).
4. Grasp the extension bar and roll it downward removing it from the cable guides (1).
5. Remove the pilots from both left and right side cable guides.
6. Hold the sunshade assembly all the time, use a suitable hand tool (1) to push inward on the locking button (2) located on the drivers side (left) allowing removal of the sunshade (3) from the reinforcement plate. Keep the other end of the sunshade engaged at this time.
Note: If the sunshade spring releases, it will be necessary to rewind it. Refer to step one in the install procedure.
A new service part sunshade comes pre-loaded.
7. When removing the shade assembly from the right side do the following:
1. Rotate the sunshade assembly 180 degrees.
2. While slowly retracting the shaft rod of the sunshade.
3. This will engage the internal locking mechanism, this will contain the spring force.
4. The rod can be removed from the reinforcement plate when the spring tension cannot be felt any longer.
Installation Procedure
Note: If the sunshade spring releases, it will be necessary to rewind it.
1. If the sunshade spring released turn the sunshade roller end slot 16 times in the counterclockwise direction do the following:
1. Compress the shaft rod into the sunshade to ensure no spring tension is on the shaft rod.
2. Use a vise to hold the shaft rod.
3. Compress the shaft rod into the sunshade assembly ad turn the sunshade assembly ## turns counter-clockwise.
2. Now remove the sunshade assembly from the vise
1. Rotate the sunshade assembly 180 degrees.
2. While slowly retracting the shaft rod of the sunshade.
3. This will engage the internal locking mechanism, this will contain the spring force.
4. The rod can be removed from the vise when the spring tension cannot be felt any longer.
3. Install the sunshade shaft rod (1) into the reinforcement plate hole (2).
4. Gently rotate the sunshade, this will allow the shaft rod to slide into the sunshade assembly.
5. Lower the driver's side of the sunshade assembly and push the locking button into the reinforcement plate hole.
6. Install the pilots to the left and right side fabric pockets.
7. Install the pilots into the cable guides.
8. Install the extension bar to the cable guide by rolling the extension bar upward.
