Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement (J55)

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning Brake Dust Warning.


1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.

2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.

3. Remove the parking brake shoes. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement Service and Repair.

4. Clean the wheel speed sensor mounting area on the wheel bearing and hub assembly of any accumulated dirt and debris.




5. Remove the wheel speed sensor bolt (1).

6. Remove the wheel speed sensor from the wheel bearing and hub assembly.

7. Release the wheel speed sensor harness pass through grommet from the rear brake backing plate.




8. Release the wheel speed sensor harness (1) from the rear suspension knuckle.




9. Release the wheel speed sensor electrical connector clip (1) from the upper suspension arm.

10. Disconnect the electrical connector.

11. Release the wheel speed sensor harness clip (2) from the upper suspension arm.

12. Remove the wheel speed sensor.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the wheel speed sensor.




2. Connect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.

3. Install the wheel speed sensor electrical connector clip (1) to the upper suspension arm.

4. Install the wheel speed sensor harness clip (2) to the upper suspension arm.




5. Install the wheel speed sensor harness (1) to the rear suspension knuckle.




6. Install the wheel speed sensor to the wheel bearing and hub assembly.

7. Install the wheel speed sensor harness pass through grommet to the rear brake backing plate.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

8. Install the wheel speed sensor bolt (1) and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in).

9. Install the parking brake shoes. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement Service and Repair.

10. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.

11. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle.
