Rear Air Spring Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Raise the vehicle enough so that the all 4 tires assembly's are off the ground. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.
Warning
Do NOT remove an air compressor tube in an attempt to depressurize the air suspension. Always follow the Air Suspension Depressurization Procedure in Air Suspension. Failure to follow this procedure may cause personal injury or damage to the air compressor and/or air spring tube fittings.
2. Depressurize the air suspension system. Refer to Air Suspension System Depressurization and Pressurization Procedures.
3. Continue the raise the vehicle to a workable height.
4. Remove the air tube fitting from (1) from the rear air spring (2).
5. Release the 2 retaining clips (2) from the upper rear spring seat (1).
6. Collapse the rear air spring (1) and remove it from the rear lower control arm.
Installation Procedure
Warning
Ensure that the air spring is fully seated and properly positioned on the lower control arm. Failure to properly position the air spring may cause the air spring to break apart, possibly resulting in personal injury or damage to the vehicle.
1. Clean the lower control arm pocket of debris to ensure that the rear air spring can be fully seated on the lower control arm.
2. With the rear air spring collapsed, position the rear air spring (1) in the lower control arm.
Caution: Do NOT exceed the torque value on the air supply fitting, over tightening may cause the plastic threads in the air compressor or the air spring to become stripped, permanently damaging the air spring compressor or air spring.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
3. Install the air tube fitting (1) to the air spring and tighten to 2 Nm (18 lb in).
4. Snap the 2 retaining clips (2) into place on the upper rear spring seat (1).
Caution: Do NOT pressurize the air springs under load or damage to the air spring will occur. Always pressurize the system with the wheels of the vehicle off the ground.
5. Lower the vehicle, but DO NOT allow the tires and wheels to touch the ground.
6. Pressurize the air suspension system. Refer to Air Suspension System Depressurization and Pressurization Procedures.
7. Check the air tube fitting at the rear air spring for leaks, repair if necessary.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Start the vehicle and run for approximately (1) minute to ensure that the rear air spring is completely pressurized and functioning properly.
