Section: 9J
Date: OCT. 1992
Corporate Bulletin No.: 901611R
ASE No.:

Subject:
EXCHANGE PROGRAM SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINT (SIR) SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC ENERGY RESERVE MODULE (DERM)

Model and Year:
1990 CAMARO, METRO (CONVERTIBLE ONLY) AND STORM
1991-93 CAPRICE, CAMARO, CORSICA, BERETTA, CORVETTE, METRO (CONVERTIBLE ONLY) AND STORM

This bulletin has been revised to include the 1993 model year for B, F, L, M-(convert only), R, and Y and also to update Delco Service Centers' listing.

Supplemental Inflatable Restraint DERMS used in the above models are to be serviced by exchange with one of the AC Delco Service Centers (See Illustration). The Centers are authorized to preexchange by sending an exchange unit to the dealership in advance of receiving a problem unit for repair.

The only cases in which a dealer should order a DERM through GMSPO is when the DERM is missing or physically damaged.

LOCATING EXCHANGE PARTS

If your local AC Delco repair facility does not have a unit available for pre-exchange, call other shops listed in the bulletin. As independent businesses, the shops may not refer a dealership to another shop for service when an exchange unit is not available. It is the dealership's responsibility to find a needed exchange unit by calling first the local shop, then others on the list.

All shops are authorized to ship to any Chevrolet dealer.

AC DELCO EXCHANGE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the DERM unit requiring repair from the vehicle; complete all red shaded areas of the AC Delco Warranty Repair Claim (ACD-1078A). Send the unit and all five copies of the completed form to the authorized AC Delco Center chosen from those listed or from the Authorized AC Delco WA-2. ALL INFORMATION EXCEPT FOR THE DEALER'S SIGNATURE MUST BE PRINTED LEGIBLY OR TYPED. Additional ACD-1078A Claim Forms may be obtained from the Chevrolet Dealer Assistance Center (DAC).

IMPORTANT:
Nature of Problem, Field #3, is particularly important. To assure accurate diagnosis and repair of the returned unit, also attach a Repair Order copy.

2. The repaired unit will be returned to the dealership with the dealership copy of the AC Delco form, properly completed. In cases where the dealership has received a pre-exchange unit, the completed form will be mailed after return of the inoperative unit to the repair center.

3. A warranty claim is to be submitted for the R&R of the unit. An additional .2 hour administrative allowance will be paid if applied for when components are repaired under warranty by an AC Delco Service Center. This additional time should be entered in the "other labor hours" column of the Chevrolet warranty claim.

4. The dealer copy of the ACD-1078A and the freight receipt or shipping invoice are to be retained in accordance with requirements detailed in the current Chevrolet Service Policies and Procedures Manual.

TIMELY RETURN OF UNITS FOR REPAIR

Return of units for repair in cases of pre-exchange is critical to the success of the exchange programs. When dealerships do not immediately return cores, it results in local parts shortages. If dealerships are delinquent on core returns, AC Delco will contact Chevrolet for action by Warranty Administration
