Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair

Throttle Position Sensor:

TP Sensor Replacement

Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the Throttle Position (TP) sensor electrical connector.
2. Remove the two TP sensor attaching screws, lock washers and retainers.
3. Remove the throttle position sensor.

Installation Procedure

Important: If the Throttle Position sensor or the throttle body is replaced, the Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM) must LEARN the TP sensor idle position voltage with the new component(s) installed. This is necessary to ensure effective engine torque during Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR) events. This procedure can be done using GM Techline equipment.

1. With the throttle valve in the normal closed idle position, install the TP sensor on the throttle body assembly. Align the the TP sensor pickup lever with the tang on the throttle actuator lever.
2. Install the retainers and the two TP sensor screws. Tighten the TP sensor attaching screws to 2.0 Nm (18 lb in).
