Cooling System Leak Testing

SURGE TANK CAP PRESSURE TEST
^ Tools Required
- J24460-01 Cooling System and Cap Pressure Tester
- J24460-92 Cooling System Tester Adapter

1. Inspect the hose connections for leaks.





2. Inspect the surge tank cap for loss of pressure using the J24460-92 and the J24460-01.If the surge tank cap does not hold the rated pressure, replace the surge tank pressure cap.
3. Use the correct pressure cap. Use only a 103 kPa (15 psi) pressure cap.

ON-VEHICLE PRESSURE TESTING PROCEDURE

- J24460-92 Cooling System Tester Adapter

1. Inspect the connections of the coolant hoses for leaks. Repair as required.
2. Remove the surge tank cap.





3. Install J24460-01 to the surge tank. Follow the instructions supplied with the J24460-01.
4. Build up pressure to no more than 138 kPa (20 psi).
5. The system should hold the pressure for about two minutes.
^ If a measurable amount of pressure drops within two minutes, test for a leak.
^ If you find a leak, remove the radiator. Replace the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement.
