Inflator Module - Replacement

Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module (Typical):

CAUTION: When carrying a live inflatable restraint steering wheel module, make sure the bag opening is pointed away from you. Never carry the inflatable restraint steering wheel module by the wires or electrical connector on the underside of it. In case of an accidental deployment, the bag will then deploy with minimal chance of injury. When placing a live inflatable restraint steering wheel module on a bench or other surface, always face the bag and trim cover up, away from the surface. Never rest a steering column on the steering wheel with the inflatable restraint steering wheel module face down and steering column vertical. This is necessary so that a free space is provided to allow the air bag to expand in the unlikely event of accidental deployment.

Remove or Disconnect
1. Disable SIR system.
2. Bolts/screws from back of steering wheel using number 30 Torx(R) driver or equivalent.
3. Inflatable restraint steering wheel module from steering wheel.
4. SIR coil electrical connector and retainer from inflatable restraint steering wheel module.
5. Horn and ground lead from column.

Install or Connect

NOTICE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement of fasteners requiring thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and system.

1. Horn and ground lead to column.
2. SIR coil electrical connector and retainer to inflatable restraint steering wheel module.
3. Secure SIR coil electrical connector to steering wheel by inserting thick section of wire into existing retainers.
4. Position inflatable restraint steering wheel module to steering wheel.

Important: Ensure wiring is not exposed or trapped between inflatable restraint steering wheel module and steering wheel.

5. Bolts/screws to inflatable restraint steering wheel module.

Tighten
- Bolts/screws to 3 N.m (25 lb in).

6. Enable SIR system.
