Ground Strap: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the [1][2]ground strap nut from the stud in the frame.

This is located on the frame directly below the vacuum brake booster.

3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
4. Remove the [1][2]ground strap bolt from the block. The ground strap bolt is located on the:
^ Left side of the engine block
^ Rear of the exhaust manifold
^ Inboard of the heated oxygen sensor
5. Remove the [1][2]ground strap from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

1. Install the [1][2]ground strap and the engine wiring harness ground terminal to the engine block boss.
2. Orient the [1][2]ground strap and the engine wiring harness ground terminals between 3 o'clock and 6 o'clock on the engine block boss.

Tighten
Tighten the [1][2]ground strap bolt to the engine block boss to 32 N.m (24 lb ft).
3. Lower the vehicle.
4. Install the [1][2]ground strap end to the stud in the frame.
5. Install the [1][2]ground strap stud nut to the stud in the frame.

Tighten
Tighten the [1][2]ground strap stud nut to the frame to 32 N.m (24 lb ft).

6. Install the negative battery cable.

Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).

7. Program the Transmitters. Refer to Transmitter Programming/Synchronization in Keyless Entry. Service and Repair
