Heat Shield: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Loosen the muffler hanger clamp.





3. Slide the muffler hanger out of the bracket.
4. Lower the muffler.





5. Remove the exhaust pipe hanger pin from the rubber hanger. Let the exhaust system rest on the rear trailing axle.
6. Drill out the 4 forward heat shield rivets.





7. Drill out the rearward heat shield rivets.
8. Remove the heat shield.

Installation Procedure





1. Position the heat shield.
2. Install the rearward pop rivet.





3. Install the 4 forward heat shield rivets.





4. Install the exhaust pipe pin to the rubber hanger.





5. Slide the muffler hanger into the hanger bracket.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





6. Tighten the muffler hanger bolt.
7. Lower the vehicle.
