Windshield Frame Weatherstrip Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Open the driver and passenger doors.
2. Remove the roof lift off panel or lower the retractable roof.




3. Using a door trim pad and garnish clip remover, remove the push in retainers from the lower corners of the windshield frame weatherstrip.
4. Remove the windshield frame weatherstrip upper corner screws.
5. Remove the windshield frame weatherstrip from the weatherstrip side retainers.




6. Reposition the rear edge of the windshield frame weatherstrip forward to gain access to the windshield frame weatherstrip upper screws.
7. Remove the windshield frame weatherstrip upper screws.
8. Remove the windshield frame weatherstrip from the windshield frame.
9. Clean any sealer and foam sealing tape from the windshield frame.
10. Clean any sealer and foam sealing tape from the windshield frame weatherstrip.

Installation Procedure

Important: Replace the foam sealing tape if reusing the weatherstrip side retainer.

Important: Do not stretch the foam sealing tape to fit. The tape may shrink back, or creep, after installation, resulting in a gap which may cause a leak.

1. Measure and trim the foam sealing tape so it extends 2.0 mm (0.08 in) beyond the top corners of the windshield frame weatherstrip.
2. Apply the foam sealing tape to the windshield frame weatherstrip.




3. Apply a 75 mm (3 in) bead of sealer GM P/N 12345097 or Canadian P/N 10953479 or equivalent, past the windshield frame roof latches and the upper corner of the windshield frame.
4. Apply a bead of sealer GM P/N 12345097 or Canadian P/N 10953479 or equivalent, across the top of the windshield frame.
5. Remove the protective backing from the foam sealing tape.




6. Position the windshield frame weatherstrip to the windshield frame.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

7. Install the windshield frame weatherstrip upper screws.

Tighten the screws to 3.5 N.m (30 lb in).

8. Install the windshield frame weatherstrip upper corner screws.

Tighten the screws to 3.5 N.m (30 lb in).




9. Insert the windshield frame weatherstrip into the weatherstrip side retainers starting at the top and working downward.
10. Install the push in retainers to the lower corners of the windshield frame weatherstrip.




11. Install the roof panel or raise the retractable roof.
