Body - Paint Damage Near Rear Caliper Air Scoops

Driver and/or Passenger Side Paint Finish Concerns (Scuffed/Chipped) at Outer Edge of Quarter Panel at Rear Brake Caliper Cooling Air Scoop (Install New Design Left and Right Rear Brake Caliper Cooling Inner and Outer Air Scoops)

Condition
Some customers may comment on the paint finish being scuffed or chipped at the outer edge of the quarter panel located near the driver and/or passenger side of the rear brake caliper cooling air scoop opening.
Cause
While the vehicle is in motion, the front tires may distribute road sand, gravel and debris against the painted, unprotected outer edge of the rear brake caliper cooling air scoops.
Correction
Install the new design left and right rear brake caliper cooling inner and outer air scoops using the procedure below.
Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in SI.
Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in SI.
Remove the 7 mm head screw from the rear brake caliper air cooling duct.
Remove the rear wheelhouse liner fasteners.
Remove the rear wheelhouse liner. Refer to Rear Wheelhouse Liner Panel Replacement in SI.
Remove the rear brake caliper cooling duct and sound damping bag.
Tip
Use a flat-bladed screwdriver to release the tabs holding the rear brake caliper air cooling duct to the inner scoop.
The inner (1) and outer (2) scoops are secured together with plastic tabs. The plastic tabs need to be released with a flat-bladed screwdriver or hook tool prior to removal.
Remove the rear brake caliper inner air scoop and outer air scoop. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Cooling Air Scoop Replacement in SI.
Wipe off any debris from the outer edge of the quarter panel around the air scoop.
Install the new design inner air scoop to the inner quarter body panel.
Install the new design outer air scoop from the outer quarter body panel and snap into the inner air scoop.
Install the rear brake caliper air cooling duct into the inner scoop.
Install the rear sound damping bag behind the rear brake caliper cooling duct.
Install the rear wheelhouse liner.
Install the rear wheelhouse liner fasteners and the 7 mm head screw for the rear brake caliper air cooling duct. Refer to Rear Wheelhouse Liner Panel Replacement in SI.
Tighten the wheelhouse fasteners.
Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in SI.
Repeat this entire procedure on the opposite side of the vehicle.
Lower the vehicle.
