Windshield Replacement



Windshield Replacement

Tools Required
* J 24402-A Glass Sealant Cold Knife Remover
* J 39032 Stationary Glass Removal Tool
* Urethane Adhesive Kit or Equivalent
* Isopropyl Alcohol or Equivalent
* Cartridge-type Caulking Gun
* Commercial-type Utility Knife
* Razor Blade Scraper
* Suction Cups
* Plastic Paddle

Removal Procedure

1. Open the hood.
2. Lower the door windows.

Important: Before cutting out a stationary window, apply a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and inner trim.

3. Remove the windshield wiper arms.

* For the coupe, remove the roof lift-off panel.
* For the convertible, lower the folding top.




5. Remove the hood air inlet screen seal.




6. Remove the air inlet screen panel.
7. Remove the lower windshield supports (1) from the cowl panel, if equipped.




8. Remove the rearview mirror.

Caution: Refer to Defroster Outlet Caution.

9. Cover the following parts to protect from broken glass:

1. The upper dash pad
2. The defroster outlets and the A/C outlets
3. The seats and the carpeting




10. Remove the windshield weatherstrip.




11. Remove the windshield side reveal moldings.




12. Remove the windshield side garnish moldings and retainer clips from the windshield frame




13. Remove the 4 rearmost screws that attach the top of the fender to the wheelhouse.

Important: Tape or otherwise protect the fender from the cutting tool.

14. Reposition the top of the fender for tool access.





Important: Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the window.

15. This will allow the urethane adhesive to be separated from the window.

* Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange.
* The only suitable lubrication is clear water.
* Use J 24402-A, J 39032 or equivalent in order to remove the window.




16. Remove the bottom of the window from the urethane adhesive using a long utility knife or similar tool. Keep the cutting edge of the utility knife against the glass. Do this from inside the vehicle.




17. Remove the windshield (1) from the vehicle with the aid of an assistant (2).

Installation Procedure

1. Install a stationary window into the opening.




2. Install the windshield side reveal moldings.




3. Install the windshield weatherstrip.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

4. Install the fender mounting screws.

Tighten the screws to 1.9 N.m (17 lb in).




5. Install the air inlet screen.




6. Install the air inlet screen seal.
7. Install the windshield wiper arms and washer hoses.




8. Install the windshield side garnish moldings.




9. Remove the rearview mirror.
10. Perform the appropriate step:

* For the coupe, install the roof lift-off panel.
* For the convertible, raise and close the folding top.

11. Close the door windows.
12. Remove the double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.
13. Close the hood.
