Condition

Some customers may comment on a clicking, ticking, or cracking noise from the front of dash during warm up in cold weather or cool down in warm weather, especially as the front windshield defroster air duct warms up or cools down the vehicle.

Cause

Thermal expansion/contraction may cause this noise. The expansion may be between the dash carrier and the clips attached to the instrument panel (defroster grille cover) or the clip to the trim panel (defroster grille cover).

Correction

Remove the upper instrument panel following the procedures in SI.

Remove the retaining clips and install squeak reduction tape under the clips.

Apply 3M(TM) Squeak Reduction Tape into the retaining clip slots. Apply the tape across the retaining holes and then slice the tape down the center.

Reinstall the upper instrument panel following the procedures in SI.
