Timing Cover: Service and Repair



Engine Front Cover Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (LZ4), (GE 47716).
2. Remove the drive belt tensioner.
3. Remove the oil pan.
4. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
5. Remove the crankshaft position actuator magnet.
6. Remove the thermostat housing. Refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LZ4).
7. Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (LZ4).
8. Remove the engine front cover bolts (1).
9. Remove the engine front cover.
10. Remove the engine front cover gasket.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the engine front cover gasket.
2. Install the engine front cover.
3. Apply sealant to the bolts in the locations pointed out (1) in the graphic. Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

4. Install the engine front cover bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

5. Install the water pump.
6. Install the thermostat housing.
7. Install the crankshaft position actuator magnet.
8. Install the crankshaft balancer.
9. Install the oil pan.
10. Install the drive belt tensioner.
11. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (LZ4).
