Engine Replacement

Tools Requires

Removal Procedure




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove the hood. Refer to Hood Replacement.
4. Remove the intake manifold cover.
5. Remove the engine mount strut.
6. Remove the drive belt.
7. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (LZ4, LZ9), (GE 47716), (L61).
8. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement.
9. Remove the starter motor.
10. Remove the oil pressure sensor heat shield nuts and shield.




11. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the oil pressure sensor.
12. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) from the knock sensor.




13. Remove the engine wiring harness clip (1) from the air conditioning (A/C) compressor bracket.
14. Remove the engine wiring harness clip bolt (3).
15. Separate the engine wiring harness clip (2) from the engine boss.




16. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the A/C compressor.




17. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the oil level sensor.




18. Remove the engine wiring harness clips (1, 2, 3) from the transaxle bracket.




19. Remove the engine wiring harness clip (1) from the transaxle bracket.




20. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer (1).
21. Disconnect the lower front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector (2) from the engine wiring harness electrical connector (3).
22. Remove the engine wiring harness electrical connector (3) from the thermostat housing stud.




23. Remove the CPA retainer (1).
24. Disconnect the lower rear HO2S electrical connector (2) from the engine wiring harness electrical connector (3).
25. Remove the engine wiring harness electrical connector (3) rosebud from the transaxle mount.




26. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the knock sensor.
27. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) from the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.




28. Remove the engine wiring harness clip (1) from the engine stud.
29. Lower the vehicle.




30. Remove the engine wiring harness clip (1) from the power steer pump bracket.




31. Using the J 25034-C, remove power steering pump pulley.




32. Remove the power steering pump bolts (2).
33. Remove the power steering line clip nut (1) from the generator stud.
34. Remove the power steering line clip from the stud.
35. Reposition and secure the power steering pump assembly out of the way.




36. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge solenoid.
37. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) from the electronic throttle control (ETC).
38. Remove the CPA retainer (4).
39. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (3) from the HO2S.




40. Disconnect the engine wiring harness clips (1) from the heater inlet and outlet pipe brackets.
41. Disconnect the engine wiring harness clip (2) from the engine lift bracket.




42. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor.
43. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) from the ignition control module.




44. Remove the CPA retainer (5).
45. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the rear upper HO2S electrical connector.




46. Remove the engine wiring harness clips (1, 2) from the ignition control module bracket.




47. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) from the generator.
48. Reposition the engine wiring harness terminal boot (3).
49. Remove the engine wiring harness terminal nut (4).
50. Remove the engine wiring harness terminal (1) from the generator stud.
