Engine Replacement Con't
51. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the inlet manifold valve.
52. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) from the fuel injector inline electrical connector.
53. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the camshaft phasor.
54. Remove the engine wiring harness bolt (1).
55. Remove the engine wiring harness clip (2) from the engine.
56. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) from the body wiring harness electrical connector (1).
57. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (3) from the body wiring harness electrical connector (2).
58. Disconnect the body harness electrical connector from the powertrain control module (PCM).
59. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the PCM.
60. Disconnect the engine harness electrical connector from the transmission control module (TCM).
61. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the vehicle speed sensor.
62. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) from the transaxle.
63. Remove the engine wiring harness clip (2) from the transaxle stud.
64. Remove the engine wiring harness bolt (1) from the transaxle.
65. Remove the engine wiring harness clip bolts (1, 2).
66. Remove the engine wiring harness ground bolt (2).
67. Remove the engine wiring harness ground terminal (1) from the engine.
68. Remove the engine wiring harness ground nut (3).
69. Remove the engine harness ground terminal (2) and battery cable ground terminal (1) from the transaxle stud.
70. Gather all branches of the engine wiring harness and reposition the harness out of the way.
71. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LZ4), (LZ9) and/or Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LZ4), (LZ9).
72. Remove the engine mount.
73. Remove the torque converter cover.
74. Remove the flexplate to torque converter bolts.
75. Unbolt and reposition the A/C compressor of to the side. DO NOT discharge the A/C system.
76. Remove the transaxle brace to oil pan bolts.
77. Remove the transaxle brace to transaxle bolt and remove the brace.
78. Remove the transaxle brace to oil pan lower bolt (6).
79. Remove the transaxle brace to engine block bolts (1, 2).
80. Remove the transaxle brace to transaxle bolts (3, 4) and remove the brace (5).
81. Remove the lower transaxle-to-engine bolt and stud.
82. Reposition the radiator outlet hose clamp at the thermostat housing.
83. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the thermostat housing.
84. Lower the vehicle and support the transaxle.
85. Reposition the radiator surge tank hose clamp at the surge tank pipe.
86. Remove the radiator surge tank hose from the surge tank pipe.
87. Reposition the brake booster vacuum hose clamp at the intake manifold.
88. Remove the brake booster vacuum hose from the intake manifold.
89. Reposition the heater inlet and outlet hose clamps at the engine.
90. Remove the heater outlet and inlet hoses from the engine.
91. Disconnect the fuel feed line from the fuel rail. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service.
92. Disconnect the EVAP purge line from the canister purge solenoid. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service.
93. Reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp at the engine.
94. Remove the radiator inlet hose from the engine.
95. Install a engine lifting device to the engine.
96. Remove the remaining transaxle-to-engine bolts/studs.
97. Remove the remaining transaxle-to-engine bolts/studs.
98. Separate the engine from the transaxle and remove the engine from the vehicle.
99. Using the J 37096, secure the flexplate in order to prevent the flexplate from rotating.
100. Loosen the flexplate bolts.
101. Remove 5 of the 6 flexplate bolts leaving one bolt at the top of the crankshaft.
102. Grip the flexplate and remove the remaining bolt. Do not drop the flexplate when removing the final bolt.
103. Remove the flexplate.
104. Install the engine to the engine stand.
