Engine Replacement Con't
Installation Procedure
1. Install a engine lifting devise to the engine.
2. Remove the engine from the engine stand.
3. Position the flexplate to the crankshaft.
4. Install the flexplate bolts finger tight.
5. Install the J 37096 to the flexplate in order to prevent the flexplate from rotating.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.
6. Tighten the flexplate bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 70 N.m (52 lb ft).
7. Remove the J 37096.
8. Install the engine to the vehicle and install the engine to the transaxle.
9. Install the transaxle-to-engine bolts/studs.
10. Install the remaining transaxle-to-engine bolts/studs.
Tighten the bolts/studs to 75 N.m (55 lb ft).
11. Install the radiator inlet hose to the engine.
12. Position the radiator inlet hose clamp at the engine.
13. Connect the EVAP purge line to the canister purge solenoid. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service.
14. Connect the fuel feed line from the fuel rail. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service.
15. Install the heater outlet and inlet hoses to the engine.
16. Position the heater inlet and outlet hose clamps at the engine.
17. Install the brake booster vacuum hose to the intake manifold.
18. Position the brake booster vacuum hose clamp at the intake manifold.
19. Install the radiator surge tank hose to the surge tank pipe.
20. Position the radiator surge tank hose clamp at the surge tank pipe.
21. Remove the support from the transaxle and raise the vehicle.
22. Install the radiator outlet hose to the thermostat housing.
23. Position the radiator outlet hose clamp at the thermostat housing.
24. Position the transaxle brace (5) and install the transaxle brace to transaxle bolts (3, 4) until snug.
25. Install the transaxle brace to engine block bolts (1, 2) until snug.
26. Install the transaxle brace to oil pan lower bolt (6) until snug.
Tighten the bolts in the following sequence (3, 2, 1, 6, 4) to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
27. Position the transaxle brace and install to transaxle brace to transaxle bolt.
28. Install the transaxle brace to oil pan bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
29. Position and install the A/C compressor onto the stud.
30. Tighten the A/C compressor nut first, then the rear bolt, then the front bolt.
Tighten the bolts/nut to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
31. Install the flexplate to torque converter bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 62 N.m (46 lb ft).
32. Install the torque converter cover.
33. Install the engine mount.
34. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LZ4), (LZ9) and/or Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LZ4), (LZ9).
35. Position the branches of the engine wiring harness over the engine.
36. Install the battery cable ground terminal (1) and the engine harness ground terminal (2) to the transaxle stud.
37. Install the engine wiring harness ground nut (3).
Tighten the nut to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
38. Install the engine wiring harness ground terminal (1) to the engine.
39. Install the engine wiring harness ground bolt (2).
Tighten the bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
40. Remove the engine wiring harness clip bolts (1, 2).
Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
41. Install the engine wiring harness bolt (1) to the transaxle.
Tighten the bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
42. Instal the engine wiring harness clip (2) to the transaxle stud.
43. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) to the transaxle.
44. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) to the vehicle speed sensor.
45. Connect the engine harness electrical connector to the TCM.
46. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) to the PCM.
47. Connect the body harness electrical connector to the PCM.
48. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (3) to the body wiring harness electrical connector (2).
49. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (2) to the body wiring harness electrical connector (1).
