ENGINEERING INFORMATIONBulletin No.: 08-05-25-008A
Date: June 17, 2009
Subject: EI08356 - Intermittent Antilock Brake System (ABS) Warning Light On, Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) DTCs Set (Engineering Information Closed/Engineering Recommendations)
Models:
2008-2009 Chevrolet Aveo
2008-2009 Pontiac G3 Wave (Canada Only)
Supercede:
This bulletin is being revised to end the need for information from the field and to offer engineering recommendations to correct this customer concern. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 08-05-25-008 (Section 05 - Brakes).
Condition
Some customers may comment that the antilock brake system (ABS) warning light is illuminated.
A scan tool may reveal one or more wheel speed sensor (WSS) DTCs stored.
Engineering Recommendations
Based on data collected with your assistance, GM Engineering identified cases of higher than allowable resistance in the wheel speed sensor (WSS) to the electronic brake control module. (EBCM) wire harness. If you encounter additional vehicles with the above customer condition, it's advised that you initially check this harness as directed below.
Wiring Harness Check Procedure
1. Check the resistance between the terminals of the EBCM connector and the terminals of the DTC identified WSS connector (shown above). If the resistance is less than 1 ohm, this WSS circuit is good.
2. With the WSS connector connected, check the resistance between the EBCM connector terminals for that sensor. If the resistance is NOT in the range (FRT: 1215-1485 ohms or RR: 2160-2640 ohms), then the WSS is failed.
3. With the WSS connector disconnected, check the resistance between the EBCM connector terminal and ground for that sensor. If the resistance is less than 1 ohm, there is a short.
If the WSS wire harness is shown to be the source of the DTC, replace the harness. Current production and service wire harnesses have been revised to improve quality control. If the wire harness proves "good," refer to SI and perform the published diagnostics for the applicable customer concern.
