Subject: Hoot/Whistle/Moan Wind Noise from Windshield/Door Area (Apply Tape to Both Front Door Upper Frames, Secure Weatherstrip)
Models:
2004-2009 Chevrolet Aveo
2005-2009 Pontiac G3 Wave (Canada Only)
Built Prior to November 8, 2008
Condition
Some customers may comment on hearing a hoot/whistle/moan wind noise coming from the windshield/door area. The noise is particularly evident in a crosswind at highway speeds.
Cause
This condition may be caused by a vibration of the front door outer weatherstrip lip at the upper door frame and the A-pillar.
Correction
To secure the door weatherstrips, install double-sided tape to the upper window frame of both front doors following the steps below:
1. Open the driver door and detach the door weatherstrip from the upper window frame.
2. Clean the upper side of driver door weatherstrip contact area (door window frame) with *3M(R) Cleaner (P/N 08984), or equivalent.
3. Clean the inside portion of the weatherstrip with *3M(R) Cleaner (P/N 08984), or equivalent.
4. Cut a piece of *3M(R) double-sided tape (P/N 06397), or equivalent, approximately 117 cm (46 in) in length, to fit the entire length of the door window frame (1).
5. Apply *3M(R) Weatherstrip Adhesion Promoter (P/N 4298UV), or equivalent, on the inside surface of the weatherstrip.
6. Adhere the *3M(R) double-sided tape (P/N 06397), or equivalent, to the door window frame. Ensure the upper edge of the double-sided tape is flush, or below, the edge of the window frame.
7. Install the weatherstrip with a trim stick or equivalent.
8. Check the weatherstrip for adherence to the door.
9. Perform Steps 1-8 on the passenger side door.
