Condition

Some customers may comment that the airbag readiness light in the instrument panel cluster stays on after starting vehicle.

Technicians may find DTCs 52/B1378 (LF Side Deployment Loop Resistance Above Threshold) and/or 56/B1382 (RF Side Deployment Loop Resistance Above Threshold) set.

Cause

When driving or adjusting the seat, the electrical connector for the side airbag may move or pull apart slightly, resulting in momentary high resistance. There is no impact to airbag performance.

Correction

Remove the original side airbag connector and install the service kit following the procedure below.

1. Check for DTCs using a scan tool.
2. If DTCs 52/B1378 and/or 56/B1382 are in active mode, reconnect the side airbag wiring harness to change the DTC mode from active to history.
3. Clear the DTCs.
4. Wait 10 seconds after removing the key from the key cylinder.

Important
Be sure to disconnect all electrical connectors under the seat.

5. Remove the seat assembly. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket in SI.

6. Cut both sides of the old connector approximately 2 in (5 cm) from the connector (1).

7. Obtain a new connector from the kit and cut off crimp ends (2). Discard the heat shrink tubing.
8. Strip the ends of the wires on both vehicle wires and the new connector wires.
9. Splice the corresponding wires using salmon Duraseal splice sleeves, P/N 12089189. Refer to Splicing Copper Wire Using Splice Sleeves in SI.

10. Attach the connector and wires to the seat frame underneath the seat (3) using cable ties from the kit.
11. Reconnect all electrical connections.
12. Install the seat assembly. Refer to Front Seat Replacement - Bucket in SI.
