Starter Motor Noise Diagnosis

Diagnostic Instructions

Circuit/System Testing

1. Start the engine. Verify the noise can be heard. Compare the concern to a similar vehicle.
2. Remove the starter.
3. Inspect the flywheel for the following:

* Loose flywheel bolts
* Chipped gear teeth
* Missing gear teeth
* Bent flywheel

If not within specifications, tighten the flywheel bolts or replace the flywheel.

If all inspections were within specification, replace the starter motor.

Repair Instructions
