Differential Cooler Pump Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service Intervals) .
2. Drain the rear axle. Refer to Lubricant Change (Removal and Replacement) .
3. Remove the rear mufflers.

* For the left rear muffler, refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement - Left Side (Service and Repair) .
* For the right rear muffler, refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement - Right Side (Service and Repair) .

4. Remove the cooler inlet pipe. Refer to Differential Cooler Pump Inlet Hose Replacement (Differential Cooler Pump Inlet Hose Replacement) .
5. Remove the cooler outlet pipe. Refer to Differential Cooler Pump Outlet Hose Replacement (Differential Cooler Pump Outlet Hose Replacement) .





Important: Note the location of the cover rear bolt/stud for assembly and the alignment of the outshaft of the differential and the input shaft for the pump.


6. Remove the mounting bolts (3) for the differential cooler pump (4).
7. Remove the differential cooler pump (4).
8. Remove the gasket (1).



Installation Procedure





1. Install the gasket (1).

Important: Note the alignment of the pinion shaft and input shaft of the pump. If the shafts do not line up, rotate the input shaft for the pump. If they are not aligned properly, the pump will not be seated correctly in the differential housing. Also, note the location of the bolt/stud for the proper installation.


2. Install the differential cooler pump (4).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

3. Install the retaining bolts.

Tighten the differential cooler mounting bolts (3) to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

4. Install the cooler outlet pipe. Refer to Differential Cooler Pump Inlet Hose Replacement (Differential Cooler Pump Inlet Hose Replacement) .
5. Install the cooler inlet pipe. Refer to Differential Cooler Pump Outlet Hose Replacement (Differential Cooler Pump Outlet Hose Replacement) .
6. Install the rear mufflers.

* For the left rear muffler, refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement - Left Side (Service and Repair) .
* For the right rear muffler, refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement - Right Side (Service and Repair) .

7. Fill the differential assembly. Refer to Lubricant Change (Removal and Replacement) .
8. Lower the vehicle.
