Differential Oil Cooler Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service Intervals) .
2. Lower and support the rear of the exhaust system.
3. Install a drain pan under the vehicle.
4. Disconnect the differential cooler pump outlet pipe from the differential cooler. Refer to Differential Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick Connect Fitting (Differential Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick Connect Fitting) .




5. Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler inlet pipe from the differential cooler. Refer to Differential Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick Connect Fitting (Differential Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick Connect Fitting) .
6. Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler outlet pipe from the differential cooler. Refer to Differential Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick Connect Fitting (Differential Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick Connect Fitting) .




7. Remove the differential cooler mounting bolts.

Important: Pull the differential oil cooler straight out to ensure the return pipe in the back of the differential oil cooler clears the differential housing.


8. Remove the differential cooler from the vehicle.



Installation Procedure





1. Install the differential cooler to the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

2. Install the differential cooler mounting bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).





3. Connect the transmission fluid cooler outlet pipe to the differential cooler. Refer to Differential Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick Connect Fitting (Differential Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick Connect Fitting) .
4. Connect the transmission fluid cooler inlet pipe to the differential cooler. Refer to Differential Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick Connect Fitting (Differential Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick Connect Fitting) .




5. Connect the differential cooler pump outlet pipe to the differential cooler. Refer to Differential Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick Connect Fitting (Differential Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick Connect Fitting) .
6. Fill the differential fluid. Refer to Rear Axle Lubricant Level Inspection (Procedures) .
7. Fill the transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check (Transmission Fluid Check) .
8. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
9. Raise and secure the rear of the exhaust system.
10. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service Intervals) .
