Audio System - Rear Speaker Rattling Noises

Subject: EI07208 - Rear Audio Speaker Rattle Noise (Remove Debris From Speaker)

2007-2009 Chevrolet Impala

This bulletin is being revised to end the need for information from the field and provide repair information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 07-08-44-012 (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

Condition

Some customers may comment on a rattle noise coming from the rear speakers at low or mid volume range.

Cause

This condition may be caused by debris collected on the speaker cone surface.

Correction

1. Remove the rear window shelf trim. Refer to Rear Window Shelf Trim Panel Replacement in SI.
2. Inspect both the rear speaker cones for debris.
3. If debris is evident, remove the speaker. Refer to Radio Rear Speaker Replacement in SI.

Important
Take care not to damage the speaker cone when cleaning or removing debris.

4. Turn the speaker over and carefully shake out any debris from the speaker cone.
5. Reinstall the speaker. Refer to Radio Rear Speaker Replacement in SI.
6. Operate the audio system to ensure that the rattle noise is no longer heard. If the rattle is still present, refer to Speaker Malfunction in SI for further diagnostics.
7. Reinstall the rear window shelf trim. Refer to Rear Window Shelf Trim Panel Replacement in SI.
