Bulletin No.: 07-08-53-004

Date: November 02, 2007

TECHNICAL

Subject:
Rear Door Body Side Molding Loose and/or Contacts Front Door When Opened (Replace Molding)

Models:
2007-2008 Chevrolet Impala

Condition

Some customers may comment that the rear left or right door body side molding is loose or makes contact with the front door when opened.

Cause

This may be caused by the molding expanding in warm weather and making contact with the rear edge of the front door.

Correction

Replace the rear door body side moldings following the procedure below.

Remove the old molding. Use a heat gun to warm the door body side molding prior to removal.

Clean the area with denatured alcohol to remove the adhesive.

Remove the three position pins from the back side of the molding.

If necessary, lay masking tape along the door as a guideline to follow.

Remove the protective liner from the back side of the molding adhesive tape.

Position the front edge of the molding 5 mm (0.20 in) back from the edge of the door. This will give the clearance needed when opening. Apply pressure to the molding to secure it to the door.
