Subject: Information on 2008 6T40 Design Change to Clutch Plate and Other Components

Models:
2008 Chevrolet Malibu
Equipped With 6T40 Transmission (RPO MH8)

A limited number of 6T40 (MH8) transmissions were built and installed in the 2008 Chevrolet Malibu. For the 2009 model year, improvements were made that impact the following parts which are used to service 2008 transmissions:

- Clutch Plates in the 2-6, 1-2-3-4 and 3-5 Reverse Clutch Assemblies
- Valve Body Assembly (P/N 24248273)
- Valve Body Channel Plate Spacer Plate Assembly (P/N 24248228)
- Valve Body Spacer Plate Assembly (P/N 24248227)

When servicing a 2008 6T40 (RPO MH8) that requires replacement of any of the parts listed above, it will be necessary to replace all of above parts as well as install a new calibration. The calibration will update the controls to this new level of hardware components.

Important
To obtain the 2008 update calibration, contact Techline (TCSC). Techline will reconfigure the vehicle to make this new calibration the default calibration for this vehicle.

Clutch Plate Change

The original first design friction plate (1) had grooves cut in the friction surface. The new second design friction plate (2) has a smooth friction surface for the 2-6, 1-2-3-4 and 3-5 reverse clutch assemblies.
