DTC Descriptor
DTC C0897 00
- Device Voltage Range Performance

Diagnostic Fault Information

Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

Circuit/System Description

The power steering control module (PSCM) recieves a power mode message from the body control module (BCM) via a serial data circuit. When a power mode ON message is recieved, the PSCM compares it to the state of its igniton 1 voltage circuit.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

* The PSCM power mode message and the state of the ignition 1 circuit do not agree.
* The PSCM ignition 1 voltage circuit is shorted to ground, or open.
* DTCs U2100, U2105, U2107, or U2109 are not set.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

* DTC C0897 00 is stored in memory.
* The DIC displays the POWER STEERING warning message.
* Steering assist is present for the remainder of the ignition cycle but will not be present on the following ignition ON cycle if the malfunction still exists.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* A current DTC will clear when the malfunction is no longer present.
* A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive malfunction-free ignition cycles.

Diagnostic Aids

* Inspect the 2-amp EPS fuse of the BCM for an open.
* Inspect for a poor connection at the BCM.
* Inspect for a poor connection at the PSCM.

Scan Tool Reference

Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle for PSCM scan tool information

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, Engine OFF, observe the scan tool Battery Voltage parameter in the Power Steering Control Module Data List. The specified value should be greater than 10 volts. If not greater than the specified value, check for an electrical intermittent. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections .

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the ignition 1 harness connector at the PSCM.
2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit Connector X2 terminal 8 and ground.

If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the ignition circuit fuse is open, test or replace the power steering assist motor.

3. If all circuits test normal, replace the power steering assist motor.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.

* Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle for PSCM replacement, setup, and programming.
