Subject:
Vehicle Vibration When Applying Brakes (Replace Front Brake Pads and Clean Rotor Surfaces)
Models:
2008 Chevrolet Malibu
Condition
Some customers may comment that the vehicle vibrates when applying the brakes.
This condition is not felt in the brake pedal but as a vibration in the entire vehicle. It is most likely to occur with repeat moderate to heavy brake applications in a short period of time. One situation where this may happen is descending winding mountain roads. Once the brake rotors are allowed to cool down the vibration subsides.
Correction
Replace the front brake pads with kit P/N 22731037.
Before installing the new pads it is necessary to remove the original brake pad material that has been deposited on the rotor surface. Remove both rotors and clean the inner and outer surfaces using a *Scotch‐Brite Roloc(TM) surface conditioning disc. The surface is adequately cleaned when it is shiny and all of the dark areas have been removed.
