SERVICE UPDATE

Bulletin No.: 08102

Date: May 15, 2008

Subject:
08102 - Service Update for Inventory and Customer Vehicles - 17" Chrome Wheel Cover - Peeling/Blistering/Dull/Discolored - Expires with Base Warranty

Models:
2008 Chevrolet Malibu 1LT

Equipped with 17" Chrome Wheel Covers

THIS SERVICE UPDATE INCLUDES VEHICLES IN DEALER INVENTORY AND CUSTOMER VEHICLES THAT RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ANY REASON. IT WILL EXPIRE AT THE END OF THE INVOLVED VEHICLE'S NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY PERIOD.

Purpose

This bulletin provides a service procedure to inspect the four chrome wheel covers and replace them if necessary. Some of these vehicles may have chrome wheel covers that do not meet GM's specifications resulting in a peeling blistering dull or discolored surface.

This service procedure should be completed as soon as possible on involved vehicles currently in dealer inventory and customer vehicles that return to the dealer for any type of service during the New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage period.

Vehicles Involved

A list of involved vehicles currently in dealer inventory is available on the "Service Update Bulletin Information" link under the "Service" tab in DealerWorld (GM) or attached to the Dealer Communication (Canada) used to release this bulletin. Customer vehicles that return for service for any reason and are still covered under the vehicles base warranty and are within the VIN breakpoints provided above should be checked for vehicle eligibility in the appropriate system listed below.

Important:
Dealers are to confirm vehicle eligibility prior to beginning repairs by using the GM Vehicle Inquiry System (GMVIS). Not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved.

Parts Information

Parts required to complete this service update are to be obtained from General Motors Service and Parts Operations (GMSPO). Please refer to your "involved vehicles listing" before ordering parts. Normal orders should be placed on a DRO = Daily Replenishment Order. In an emergency situation parts should be ordered on a CSO = Customer Special Order.

Service Procedure

1. Remove the four wheel covers from the vehicle.

Important:
Production-approved wheel covers have a raised tire valve stem symbol (1) located on the back side of the wheel cover near the valve stem hole. Wheel covers that must be discarded will have a smooth tire valve stem symbol or NO tire valve stem symbol. The smooth tire valve stem symbol is also located on the back side of the wheel cover near the valve stem hole.

2. Locate the tire valve stem symbol on the back side of the wheel cover.

3. Determine if the tire valve stem symbol is raised or smooth.

^ If the tire valve stem symbol is raised wheel cover replacement is NOT required. Proceed to Step 4.

^ If the tire valve stem symbol is smooth (or not raised) or the tire valve stem symbol is NOT present discard the wheel cover and install a new production-approved wheel cover. Proceed to Step 4.

4. Install the four wheel covers onto the vehicle.
