TECHNICALBulletin No.: 09-06-04-005
Date: February 17, 2009
Subject:
Intermittent No Crank, Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Illuminated, DTCs P0606 and/or P16F3 Set (Reprogram ECM)
Models:
2009 Chevrolet Aveo
2009 Pontiac G3 Wave (Canada)
with 1.6L Engine (VIN E - RPO LXV)
Condition
Some customers may comment on an intermittent no crank condition with an illuminated MIL.
The technician may find DTCs P0606 and/or P16F3 set.
Cause
This condition may be caused by ignition key cycling that sometimes results in erratic ignition 1 voltage in the electrical system of the
vehicle.
Correction
Important:
DO NOT replace the ECM for this condition.
A revised calibration has been released to address this condition. Follow the published SI diagnostics for the DTC and repair, if necessary. If the SI diagnostics do not isolate a cause for this condition, then the technician should reprogram the ECM using the Service Programming System (SPS) with the latest calibration available on TIS2WEB. Refer to the SPS procedures in SI.
Note
For vehicles that are equipped with an immobilizer system (RPO BAH), the vehicle will have to relearn the immobilizer to the ECM after a reprogramming event. If the ECM and immobilizer are not synchronized, the vehicle will start, then stall. The vehicle will not crank after that until the modules have been synchronized.
Ensure that the Tech 2(R) is updated with the latest software version. During programming, the battery voltage must be maintained within the proper range of 12-15 volts. Only use the approved Midtronics(R) PSC 550 Battery Maintainer (SPS Programming Support Tool EL‐49642) or equivalent during programming.
