Subject: Theft Deterrent Alarm May Activate (Adjust/Align Hood)

Models:
2009 Chevrolet Aveo
2009 Pontiac G3
All with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) and Built Prior to 02/24/09

Condition

Some customers may comment that the theft deterrent alarm activates for no reason. This condition may appear to correct itself after the hood has been opened and closed.

Cause

This condition may be caused by the hood being out of adjustment in the up/down position. In the closed position, the hood may not be applying sufficient pressure on the hood switch.

Correction

To correct this condition, use the following steps to adjust the hood. This will reduce the gap between the inner hood panel and the hood ajar switch.

1. Open the hood and locate the left and right rubber hood bumpers.
2. To reduce the height of the hood, rotate the left and right hood bumpers to the right (clockwise) 180 degrees (one half turn).

3. Locate the hood latch pilot pin.
4. Loosen the nut using a 19 mm open end wrench (1). Use a screwdriver in order to prevent the pin (2) from rotating.
5. Rotate the latch pilot pin (2) clockwise 360 degrees (one full turn).
6. Hold the latch pin (2) in position with the screwdriver and tighten the nut (1) with a 19 mm open end wrench.
7. Close the hood.

8. Verify that the gap between the hood molding and the grille is within specification (5 mm +/- 2 mm).
